Im gonna really try to make a go at this and bring the readership back up... not that I had that many readers to begin with. I'm going 1 post per day for the next 90 days.

The Digg Conspiracy

Let me preface this post by saying that all of these claims of a digg conspiracy are really dumb. I believe that there are some diggers that have figured out ways to set up accounts on digg so they can mass promote their own stories... Kevin Rose has said they are trying to stop this and he has coincidently dugg some of those stories himself. Every one and their mother is claiming that Kevin Rose is part of some conspiracy and he is deleting stories that have anything to say against digg. This is a stupid claim, the people that are getting that are burying the stories are in fact the users, and the digg community does not want to hear stories saying anything against their(and my) beloved digg.com. Then the rest of the stories get reported as dupes. I honestly think Kevin Rose and his company are dong their best to keep digg 100% user driven... And there will always be bugs, but people will find ways to accuse digg even when they are not at fault. All I know is that I am going to stick with digg for as long as its around and as long as people are on it. This is all going to blow over and sooner or later everyone will forget about it, and digg will continue stronger then it was before.

Google calendar is alive and kicking!

Well this post is about a day late, but it seems like everyone has been talking about the new Google Calendar. So what is there to say about it? Well its a pretty basic little web-ap, but its very sleek and intuitive, and overall its extremely easy to use. The interface is very much like you would expect from Google, and is just like Gmail. However what really stands out about the service is two things. The ability to share your calendar with others, and to be able to view any calendar in an iCal or .ics format. One interesting thing here is that you can see when your favorite bands are touring, and when your favorite sports teams have games. The next thing is the SMS reminders for your appointments. You can ask to get a text message and it will be sent strait to your cell phone, unfortunately there is no support for Verizon yet. That pretty much covers everything... The Office, Extras and Ricky Gervais

Sometime over Christmas break (when my blogging was at an all time low) I got really into the British version of the Office. I knew that it came out before the American one and I wanted to see the differences. I found that the shows were very similar... But Ricky Gervais (the boss in the British version) really makes the show.
If you compare the first episodes of both versions, the plot and many of the jokes are exactly the same. They have all the same type of characters and they all act the same way. Both bosses are incredibly "out-there" but Ricky Gervais who created the Office really takes the character farther. The show is done as if it is a documentary of a real office in England, and all of the characters are "aware" of the cameras. The best part is just how much everyone hates the boss, and how annoying and self centered he is. He tells plenty of jokes, that aren't funny but what is funny is the agony and silence of how not funny the jokes he tells are. The same goes for the US version. Both are extremely funny, and worth checking out.
After the office ended Ricky Gervais did another excellent show called Extras. In this one he plays an extra on a movie set, and he's allays trying to get a line in the movie he is doing. This show follows more of the traditional "TV show making" methods, but what is great about both shows is that there is no laugh track after something funny happens. In my opinion a laugh track these days just makes a show seem cheap, and if anything the makers use it as a kruch when they want audiences to laugh (as if we cant figure it out for our selves). Extras was showing on HBO in the US, and the second season is coming soon.
Finally Ricky Gervais did a podcast with his co-collaborators where they had all sorts of funny segments, and a great character named Karl. After about ten episodes they had a quarter of a million subscribers, and then they started charging about six bucks per show. I have stopped following the show, but I would imagine that they lost more then half of their subscribers, and I just hope they make it free again. If anything, podcasting should be free and should only be ad-supported.

The Wednesday ADD Jumble

That's what I'm going to call this feature of the blog. Every Wednesday I'll go through 10 links from my delicious, and digg accounts (which you can look at from the buttons in the sidebar) and I'll post a couple sentences about each and why I think their interesting. Here we go...

HERE is an interesting site that shows how a lot of companies will use a similar image of someone to use for their website, or the cover of a book. I guarantee you have seen some of these...

HERE are some pictures of a creepy museum exhibit with sculptures of larger then life people. They are extremely detailed and realistic and some are rather odd.

HERE is an insane video of a massive Rube Goldberg device to make Ramen Noodles... mmm Ramen.

HERE is a link that talks about the next version of the Toyota Prius, its supposed to get over 100 miles per gallon! I think all this hybrid stuff is awesome, and I am very interested in the whole "oil crisis" and global warming issues, so expect some more on that issue in the near future.

HERE is a story that talks about Serenity being released on the HD-DVD platform later this year. I loved this movie, and it is unfortunate that it didn't do very well. Universal is smart for releasing this on HD-DVD, mainly because the geek culture the loved this movie is also among the group that will adopt the HD-DVD technology early.

Get a Life... A Second Life

What is there to say about this game? I honestly don't know, but I love where its going. Second Life is another Massively Multiplayer game, but the difference is that its not based on killing monsters, or gaining XP, its about being a member of this virtual society, and being part of an online economy. In the game you can buy land and build pretty much anything on it. Then you can create a store and sell things and make money, or get any kind of job. Then there are always events that get a lot of people to gather and socialize in the game. So it allows for people to be part of the community and set up a business. This is where it gets really interesting, players can take the money they make in the game and exchange it for real money. For instance, if I sold a bunch of shirts that I made myself in Photoshop and I made 10,000 Linden Dollars (the money in the game) I could exchange that into US Dollars and I get it all back based on whatever the exchange rate is. These virtual economies are really starting to pick up as more and more people are getting into MMO's. In fact people are starting to make money off of it, and in the game people and companies are buying land to advertise the company or their personal sites. As far as the "gameplay" goes, its not done all that well. The controls are not very intuitive, the interface for creating buildings is poorly done, and generally the game is slow from all the lag. Clearly this is a 1.0 version of the game, and It would be nice to see where it goes in the next few years... Clearly it will gain users, gamers and non gamers are into it, and its extremely scalable. Basically if you buy a lot of land in the game its the equivalent of buying a Linux server and paying for it monthly. To sum it up, its a great concept, it works now and its fun, and it will be incredible to see where it goes in the next few years. Apple, Microsoft and Boot Camp

I was listening to the new TWiT podcast today, and they were (for much of the show) discussing Apple's "boot" camp, and what it meant for Apple and if it will get people to switch to Apple computers. In my opinion Apple makes some excellent windows machines. CNET has an excellent comparison of 4 different laptops running windows and it even compares the OSX Macbook with the Windows Macbook. And based on some reviews I understand that the gaming capabilities of the Macbook are good as well. Since I am a gamer, and that is the only reason my massive windows box is my main computer, this especially interested me. If when the Conroe Intel chips come out (supposed to be better at running both operating systems together), Apple releases a way to run the Windows environment within OSX, and the gaming capabilities are good, I will be completely sold. Apple will also be able to take a huge chunk out of Microsoft market (for people that only use windows). But the best part of this is that everyone wins. I get my beloved Mac OS, and I get the great gaming capabilities that I would find on a comparably priced Windows box. But most importantly is that Apple gets another computer sold, and Windows gets another disc sold. No one looses here. MS wins, Apple wins, the Comsumer wins, and that is the most important part. The only people that might be affected are Dell and Gateway and other manufacturers. But if anything this will spur more compition among the PC makers, and compition is all ways good.

Rocky... The first one!

In an effort to post more, and to test out this new interface (hope you all like it) I would like to talk about the first Rocky movie. I just recently saw the teaser for the new Rocky 6 which is supposed to be out towards the end of this year, and I decided I would watch 1 - 5 to get up to speed and saw that first one and I thought it was excellent.

I was expecting a lot of campy-ness and a lot of "cheese", but instead it was a good movie. I don't wanna go in depth about it, but what I loved about the movie was how Rocky didn't make the fight such a big thing. He trained and he trained but when it got to the point where he was fighting it was definitely glorified, but not too much. In every other movie the "big moment" is allays over done, and doesn't seem real. The montage in it was excellent, the characters were very dynamic and it felt kind of real to me. I don't know why, but the movie just seemed very well done to me, despite what I heard about it from other people. The whole relationship he had with Adrian seemed a little weird and kind of forced, but it take away from the story. The big fight at the end was great and I'm very excited to get Rocky II in the mail.

Why I dont post a lot, and why bittorrent just works.

So here is what I have discovered... I dont post at all because I have other things to keep me ocupied... I have been on the internet and done all my "news stuff" for all of today, and I have nothing else to do but think about stuff to blog about and today, im talking about WHY BITTORRENT JUST WORKS.

So Iused to be really into the Doors and I havnt listened to them in a while, but I decided to get my greatest hits CD back out and I was planning to rip it to my hard drive... however I noticed it on isohunt.com, and I noticed it had plenty of seeders and leachers, and once I started the download it said it would only take 6 mininuts. Thats less time then it would take me to put it on my drive and frankly it was alot less effort for my lazy ass. So whats my point here... just that its incredibly easy. It has gotten easier to download music for free, then to do it legally. And this is the first time I really noticed this. The only other way to get music that quickly onto to your computer is from a service like itunes, and that is why they are so sucessfull. Here is an ecample... you can go to a library and get a book and photocopy everypage... technically you own it, but no one does that because it takes to much time and its not easy. Same thing goes for almost every media that you can buy. And in some aspects its the only reason the people pirate things.

Myspace Starts Video Uploading Service

It looks like the folks over at myspace.com want to capatilize on the sucess of YouTube. They now let you upload videos and share them with your friends. You can also browse videos and comment on them. The service looks good so far but there are plenty of ads.

Going to the movies...

Ok so according to some analyists this is not going to be a good year at all, for Hollywood. Normally movies have been making more money each year, however this year its supposed to be worst the 1997. King Kong which was great unfortunalty made half of what was expected, and appearently Star Wars, and Harry Potter wernt good enough to get out of the slump. Any way, I saw king kong, last weekend, I just realized how great it felt to buy my large popcorn and large soda(both way over priced)and sit with some friends, and sit, and snack away. I strategicly planed my bathroom break(before I absolutely needed to go, durring a slow part of the movie) and I got in on all of the action. It was a wonderful movie experiance, and I couldnt have enjoyed it more. So this sort of suggestion has been going around, but why dont theaters start chargering more, for a much better experiance. Im talking all the food you could possibly want, beautiful digital projecters, and some nice ass stadium style seats. Then even if the DVD was on sale at the same time, I would wanna go to the theater anyway. Why cant going to see a movie on a screen, be like going to see a theatrical preformace, at the Kennedy Center. The same ammount of work if not more went into the film, and the experiance is similar.
So thats all I have tom say, just some thaughts on where movie watching could go, and I think where it should go.
Hopefully you could understand tha jumble of words, and thanks for bearing with the spelling and grammer erros, Ill start typing these out in word first... I havent really talked about any tech aps recently, but I might be able to bring some life back into this "blog" thing.

When I started this blog, I promised myself that I wasnt going to spot posting reguarly, and that I wouldnt let it turn into a blod about my life. Well im trying hard to keep posting but usually I am just to busy or to lazy... what kind of blogger am I? Well I think this is going to end up as a weekend blog... That is a will post at least once every weekend, and Im going to try to make some longer more intresting posts. And ill do my best to try to keep it tech related

So first of all. Everyone should check out synergy, its a little tool that if u put it on two computers on the same network, it allows you to share the same mouse and keyboard not matter what operating system (mac, linux, windows)
At first it wasnt very easy to set up but I found a great tutorial from engadget, and and easier version of it on OSX with an actualt UI... dont know about the linux version but it seems to work great.

Second... King Kong came out on wednesday, and unfortunatly no one went to see it, it is now Saturday Night and since monday it has only made around 30 million. Now thats great for most movies, but King Kong was supposed to be the most epic, and greatest movie of 2005. Peter Jackson dirictor of the Lord of The Rings trilogy even added his own money in making this 212 million dollar movie, that probobly wont make its money back. Thats unfortunate I guess, but the movie was excellent. I saw it friday night and even thow the begging was rather slow,all of the action made up for it. And most importantly, the CG were SOOOOO insane.

Finally, for all you hard core gamers out there, if you go to your personalized google page, and click ad content, then click more content, you will see a game called color junction. Run the game and prepare for hours and hours of wasted time. Check it out.

Somehow I tricked myself into thinking that I could keep this blog going for years and years, and that someday, Ill be working for the big timers.... not rele, but I had a good thing going here and ive been letting it kinda fade away. Im not gonna apoligize for not posting but I will say that I wish I could get myself to post more often. This blog was created out of summer time boredom. A time when I went to sleep at 5am and woke up at 5pm. So why this next post? Thanksgiving Break, thats right it only took me five days to go back to my old habits as "Mr. Nocturnal". Some benifits inculde getting to watch all the movies you want, and if youll notice the catagorie in my flickr, making some good looking photoshop sigs. Well I try. Anyway I'd like to use this rare and coveted "blogging" time to talk about a little movie that just finised filming.

Clerks 2 has wraped and gone into post production. In preporation of its release, and thanks tot he holiday break I have been doing nothing but watching Kevin Smith movies. In a nutshell, they are all filled with vulger and intellagent dialogue, and they are all funny as fuck. Clerks 1 was an ultra low budget movie($22,000), and its safe to say that for this one the budget is considerably higher. They got some (more famous) actors, and now its in full color. All I can say is go to clerks2.com and see the production diaries for your self...

What my last post was weeks ago... HOW DID I LET THIS HAPPEN. Well I'm really not sure why I haven't been posting, it could be school work, or maybe I have to much other stuff to do or maybe I'm just lazy and have no ideas to talk about. I'm going to try and regain some momentum starting with this post...

I've been listening to the engdaget podcast, and they mentioned something very interesting and important on their show today. They mentioned Palm, and the next phone they are making and they were talking about how Palm cant just release a new device once every year or every year and a half. Now Palm especially now with their parnership with Microsoft, has the resources and the ability to work on more phones, why didn't they release a Treo without a QWERTY and a bigger screen, or even a more cellophane type thing for less money with less features. They might not work or they could be great.. The idea is to get the products out, and even get the company's name out. Apple for instance has released like 6 different ipods in 2005(the shuffle, 6 gig mini's, color screen 4g, ipod nano, ipod 5g). Everyone knows about the ipod but with each release plenty of hype was built up for the company and for the new product. Nokia an even smaller company has released 40 cell phones in 2005, next year they are on track to release 50 more. They have a phone for every one in all styles and plenty of price ranges.

So basically im just reiterating what they said on engadgegt, its an interesting point that they make, Ill try to keep posting, keep reading.

The iPod Mini Lanyard

I was able to put together somwhat of a lanyard for the iPod mini. It seems to work fine, but I wouldnt go out in public with this on.
Step 1: Attatch the pants clip to the mini. This should hold the mini up just fine.
Step 2: Push the head phone wire sideways through the hole on the pants clip. Then take the head phones and plug them into the ipod. You should be able to hold it up now with the cable.
Step 3 :Put the wire around your neck, and your headphones in your ears. You should be able to walk around with it just fine.

King Kong... And why movie production is amazing.

Today was a boring, slow, lazy day. It was raining, and I had nothing to do. So I decided to watch every episode of the King Kong Production Video Diaries. It was about 2 and a half hours worth, but it was well worth it. King Kong is going the be a BEAST of a movie. This one is set in 1933 right in the middle of the great depression. Jack Black is a filmmaker that goes to the far off Skull Island, to make his new great movie. Oh course on the island they discover dinosaurs, and a giant gorilla... Some how(I'm not sure I have never seen any other version of KK) he gets over to New York and he rains havoc on the city. Peter Jackson is going all the way with it just like LOTR. The movie is very well produced and it turns out there is soo much involved for every scene.

The film has taken about a year to complete. Starting with pre production, shooting, post production, pickups/reshoots, editing, CG integration, and just processing the shots. They have hundreds of people in the crew, and they have been spending soo much money. The film process goes like this: camera films the actors - film turned into digital video - sits there to be edited - gets edited -pickups are added - sound effects are added - actor dialogue is added - CGI is added(including digital doubles, Kong, dinosaurs, ect) - film is recolored - digital is converted back into reels - and then its processed for viewing in theaters. Its all just very crazy. At one point PJ gets so tired that he invites Bryan Singer (currently directing Superman) to come in and direct the movie for one day while he sleeps. So watch all those they are very interesting, especially the finite details that they pay attention to.

Halo is the most poplular game on the Xbox and it will be very very popular on the Xbox 360. The only problem with the new version is that it may not be out until 2007. Microsoft needs to release Halo 3 at latest at the same time as the PS3. This is practicaly impossible. At the least developers will only have another 6 or 7 months to come out with a high quality Halo game. That is Microsoft's big dilemma. How are they going to combat the launch of Sony's PS3 if there is no AAA title out on the Xbox 360.
A new idea.
All Microsoft has to do is put out something of a shareware version. In the next few months it would be very easy for the developers at Bungie to put together 10 mulitiplayer maps, a huge overhaul on the graphics, new weapons, new vehicles, and a better multiplayer and online only gameplay experience. The game could be out Spring '06, right before the PS3 and everyone would be playing it. No one would even think about the PS3 and "Halo 2.5" will be out on the Xbox 360 and it will look great. The fans will be happy and Microsoft will be happy. Then a year after that, it will be easy to make the graphics just a little better, add a few new features, and a full fledged story line. Halo 3 will be out at the same time as the movie, and that would make for 2 top selling games in 1 year The Xbox 360 would be solid for the rest of its lifetime, probably until 2010.
So there, I haven't added an idea to this book in a while, but there is my at least monthly idea.

Serenity, the Worlds Greatest Movie

September 30th has come and gone and it was quite an amazing premier for Joss Whedons new movie. For those that don't know Serenity comes after Joss's show Firefly, about 9 people on a ship, that get into plenty of trouble, at least once an episode. With Serenity Joss answers all of the questions from the die hard Firefly fans(brown coats). The movie explains a lot more about reavers and River's past, and what she is capable of. I have seen it twice already, and it is brilliant. My favorite movie ever, it just plays out so perfectly, every scene is important, or full of action, or funny. The action comes at all the right times and is never over the top.

My experience, the first time I saw it, was incredible. Being a brown coat, I wanted as many people as possible to see this movie. For the entire week prior to its release I was inviting people to come with me to see it, or to meet me at the theate. I even made an announcement on the daily school news show. I only ended up with 30 people but it was perfect. Even those of my friends that went into it with low expectations, came out and loved it. This will be a popular movie if people can get around to see it. The problem is that people do not know about it. The series didn't even get through one season(Fox's fault), and none of the actors are well known at all. The only way for word to spread is through viral marketing which is how it has been for the last couple years. I hope I did my part, and I hope that I got at least a few more people interested. I might do a review later on(don't want to spoil anything), but just go see it now. Bring as many people as you can.

Neil Gaiman... Writer, filmmaker, My best friend.

Okay that title is a big exaderation, but today September 25th I got to meet Neil Gaiman. He has probobly already forgotten about me but I very much enjoyed his talk and will definitely remember it. He read from his new book and there was Q an A session afterwards at the book store. For those that don't know Neil Gaiman he has written many books including Neverwhere, American Gods, and the latest Anansi Boys. He has also written a few graphic novels, the best being the world renowned Sandman. All of his novels are very well written and he has a very unique style. In all of his novels it seems that the main character is out of their normal place, but also fantasy is very much a part of most of his stories. And the best of all is Sandman in which the "king of dreams" is brought to earth and kept against his will. It continues with what ends up happening to him afterwards. The story is long and brilliant, like all of his work. Today was quite an experience. I got to the store right at 5:00 and I got right in line to get a ticket for the signing. In about 30 minutes I got the ticket and sat down to wait for his talk. I waited and waited till 7:30 to see him. Everyone was taking pictures, and he started reading out of Anansi Brothers. After that was a Q&A session. He was asked "How did you come up with Croup and Vandemer from Neverwhere?" or "What books did you read as a child?" or "Are you still into the career of Duran Duran?"(referring to a Biography he wrote when he was younger). After that It was time for the signing. My ticket said 42 and I got in line. As I got up to him I started shaking and as he was signing my book I told him about how much I love Sandman. Then I got behind the desk and some lady took a picture of us. What a great day.

The NEW Revolution Controller... It's Revolting?

Well it's out and its been announced. And just what does this remote control do? Well we were all expecting a surprise from Nintendo, but maybe we got a little more than we bargained for. It looks a lot like a remote control/NES controller but this little baby has a lot more inside the case. The idea is that its all wireless. Part of it works like a light fun where you can just point to the screen and controlled a cursor. It also has built in tilt sensitivity. For instance you can tilt the controller forward and the player on the screen will move forward. Oh and don't worry FPS fans, you can attatch an analog stick held in your other hand, via the port at the bottom. Its a very simple very sleek design, but it is definitely and unprecedented undertaking especially for this generation. Its battery powered, and you can use it to turn the console on and off. Hopefully it will work fine for games and will not lead to Nintendo demise but rather gamers will see them as the clear innovator among the three system manufacturers. Only problem I can think of right now is how they are going to display the thing at a store.P.S. There is a great article at IGN that goes more indepth.

Ebay buys Skype...

A few days ago eBay put a huge 4.1 billion up to buy Skype.(2.6 is also rumored not sure which is correct) This is big news and it could potentially lead to a great thing. First of all what does eBay want to do with skype, it is difficult right away to tell but here is an idea. First of all if they want to keep it as a pay service for skype within eBay, they could implement it with paypal, and it could become the main way for an eBay store to communicate with its customers. Or even better they make Skype IN and Skype OUT free. They could support it with ads directly from eBay. For instance, if I were to post a computer up for sale, it would give me the option to advertise on the main eBay page for a certain amount of money, and then it could give me the option to advertise on skype for even more money. Then when you are talking on Skype your window will have a little ad saying buy this computer. That is 100% ad supported from eBay and the person who is paying for the advertising goes straight through eBay, and all the Skype users go directly to eBay to buy the products. This was kind of an out of the blue move from eBay, as there had been talks that Yahoo would get Skype. I say good for eBay, though not the most obvious, EBay's and Skype will work together a lot better then if it had gone to any other major company.

Today was quite a day. I got together with Jack from Squenix so we film some footage for an upcoming episode. We ended up stealing wifi from barns and Noble and we got to talking about software, open source, and the ipod nano we just saw that day. Suddenly some guy comes up and asks us about wordpress, if I new about it this blog would be in WP, so I couldn't answer his question. It turns out that he is a huge UI guy and has been developing interfaces for the last ten years. He was just working for Yahoo, and now he got hired by AOL to develop the UI for their new project. A podcast search engine. Thats right AOL is trying to get all of their "garden" onto the web for the users. The podcast search should be out in about 6 weeks. I'm not gonna say who this guy was, I'm actually not really supposed to talk about this according to him. Just look out for better services coming out of AOL, Time Warner has access to a vast array of content and information that AOL could easily put for everyone's use. So look out MSN, Yahoo, and Google for this new web service giant.

Wow, was yesterday Apple Day?

Well it seems as yesterday, Augest 7th was Apple day. They just decide to put out everything they could. First and most importantly the iPod nano, then the ROKR, and updates to iTunes and Quicktime on Windows.
The iPod nano
Well here it is just like I previously posted, color screen, 2 and 4 gig flash drives, but now its ultra thin. That is just a little thinner then a pencil. Most intresting about the nano is that this is Apples replacement for the mini. It looks just like the standard ipod, and has all of the same funcionality. The only thing is, that the mini is still a great player and you can get the six gig mine for the price of the 4 gig nano. Of course it is flash and that does have its benifits.
The Motorolla ROKR
After months and months of rumors, and fake images all over the internet the ROKR has been announced. Basicly it has the iPod type interface on a Motorolla cell phone. And of course it plays 100 songs. We all want more but it is a full blown cell phone. It looks nice but it might just be better to get a treo and a big memory stick. The phone says it has i tunes but its very scaled down. As for iTunes, version 5.o just came out. It comes with parental controls, a bunch of bug fixes, and a new cleaner and nicer interface. Also Quicktime 7 has offiaclly been released for windows. Basicly it allows playback in h.264, wich the preview version has had for the last few months. Thats it for Apple right now but there should be a small update to the power books in the next few weeks.

The iPod Nano

Apple has or will announce a new flash iPod the iPod NANO. This time its an ipod shuffle/mini hybrid. Every one expected the video ipod but Apple decided to remake the shuffle into what it should have been originally. Its smaller then the mini, and now is a perfect cylinder with a small color LCD. To navigate through your songs just squeeze and turn the rubber wheel. Again the design is great from apple, and its very practical. Its a little pricey for a 2 gig player at $199, and the screen seems small and hard to read from. I expected the video but this nano seems like it could sell, maybe if they lower the price for the shuffles.
Also
Apple will announce at the same event on the 7th their Motorola itunes compatible phone called the Rocker. The only thing special about that is the nice iPod interface for a phone. As for the nano we will have to see where it goes for this holiday season.

EDIT: Recently more information has been released, the above information might not be true, but I am sure that Apple is working on a flash based color ipod, other then the mini or shuffle.

Meetro.. It really does break the ice... No really it does

Okay so the Meetro v0.61 beta is out. Instead of just passing on it because of that really cheesy video on the main site, I decided to try it out. And it is great... really, and honestly great. The fact that it is location aware only means that you know where others on meetro live or where they are typing from. But the fact that you know where even random people are talking to you from makes you want to IM them. Therefore "breaking the ice". It is all orgnized very nicly, the close some one is to you the higher they are on the list. On top of that the UI is very usable and the profile system is done very well. You can type a little about yourself, post cool websites, and then describe what you like in the categories of books, movies, places, and movies. If you find some one close to you, just view their profile and see if you like what they like and then talk to them. I've been talking to all these people that live within 5 miles of me, and one guy is still talking to me about comics. At first this seems (and it seemed to me) like a very odd concept --ohhh people know where I am I'm going to get killed-- its actually a great way to meet new people. Definitely try it out, its worth a look.

You Tube.... Because your life should be online

You Tube is a new free "sharing" service. It just like flickr but there is enough bandwidth for plenty of videos. All you have to do is set up an account, upload your videos, name them, tag them and then your set. There are plenty of videos already out, and it could eventually make a good substitute to a Google or Yahoo type video search. The best part is that it has a tag based search system. There are also plenty of friends list features, including sharing videos with your friends or family only, and recommending other peoples videos to your friends. After you watch a video you can rate it and comment on it. Hopfully they'll get bought by Google, and they can make it even better than it already is.

So Google talk has been out for a week now. It has been getting a lot of attention, some of it negative. Of course this is due to the overly simple UI, and the fact that there are not enough features. I can see that most people would agree. Every one wants a nice picture, and a profile, and all these random features, that would only increase the size of the install itself. Personally I think its absolutely perfect. The only thing that I ever did with any messenger program, is type, and occasionally talk through the mic. Google has made it so its very very easy to manage your speech boxes, and the call quality, is from what I have heard better then the leading voip services. But I am a little upset.. Even though It is perfect for someone like me, Google should know that most of their users need more and more features. It is BETA but Gmail has been in beta for a year, and when it first came out it was the best service on the web.

The real reason for Google talk right now is to get more users to Gmail. They are not making money on it, yet... but I'm sure they will. EPIC the Road to 2015

Last year at school we where given an essay assignment. It was to write a humorous essay similar to a Dave Barry type thing. I'm no comedian, but I had fun writing this, and I like how it turned out, any suggestions on how to add to it or change it so I can turn it in again next year. (Hopefully for another "A")

COUNTER-STRIKE

Counter-Strike is known as the worlds most popular on-line game for the PC. It is a very simple game. You are either on the terrorist team or on the counter-terrorist team. Your objective is to eliminate the members of opposing force. Counter-Strike is not just a game. Playing Counter-Strike is a lifestyle. If you do not devote at least eight hours of your day playing Counter-Strike(CS) you have no chance of becoming a pro, or earning the coveted ranking of 1337(elite). The hardest part of the game is to get started. You will need an incredibly fast computer and the patience of a sloth. No one is born a good player, but with some time and concentration you can become great. But don't get your hopes up.

First you are going to need to build your own computer(gaming rig). You are probably asking, why can't I just buy a computer? Well the answer is, Dell or Gateway can not offer the power you need in a computer, and you need a customizable ÂrigÂ to get a solid 933 frames per second(fps) in the game. CS is a very demanding game for your computer and you will need the best of the best in PC hardware. The first priority is installing two graphic cards, each running at 512 megabyte clock-speed, at least 10 gigabytes of DDRX-400 ram, and an AMD FX-69 processor. These components are most important and should cost only about $3,000. On top of that you will need at least a 20,000 RPM hard drive that has a capacity of at least 13 terabytes. Once you get a standard motherboard, case, and blue-ray disk drive, you should have a standard gaming rig ready for CS at just under $19,000. Now comes the hardest part, getting started.

The best way to learn the game, is to learn the levels(maps). When you are able to navigate thorough all 93 maps blind folded, you will be ready to start using the weapons. It's important to know your team, and your opponents better than you know yourself. Using the PC microphone you have to carefully plan your attack, or defense. Equally important is the fact that certain guns are better for certain situations. For instance in maps that take place inside an office building, you will need to use guns with better firing capability at close range, and you will not be using a sniper rifle. Once you get to know what gun to use, you have to learn how to shoot. Bursts are always best at long range, and never reload in the middle of an enormous gun fight. It is best to try out many weapons to see what suits you best. The most important part of Counter-Strike is your game conduct.

Now that you have the basics of game play down, you can't jump right into a game. Remember that you, along with everyone you are playing against on line, has the power to type or speak against you in the microphone. In CS you are not let back into the game until there is one clear winner and this could take a long time. Below is an example of the type of conversations that could come up while you are waiting to be let back in the game. The names have not been changed, and at the end of the essay there is a glossary providing information on the obscure vocabulary. (NOTE: the bolded text is not to be graded for grammar. It is they way that gamers communicate.)

This is only a small example of the types of things that are being said while in the middle of a game. It is best to stay out of the conversation in general, unless someone is talking badly about you at which point you retaliate with a slew of insults from which they can not recover. You can also try to use the microphone as little as possible and especially do not play music on it. It is also best not to share your feelings concerning anything that is going on outside of the game(politics, other games, current events, etc.). This could inadvertently trigger a flame war.

Those are just the basics. You will need to discover the rest for yourself while playing the game. After a solid 365 days of playing for eight hours each day, you might be ready to join up with some clans. Clans are a group of people that stick together as a team, often competing in tournaments for money and prizes. But don't get your hopes up. As you play, you may feel like your wasting you're time and your money on this game that only geeks play. That's not true. You must spend as much time playing as you can and you must spend at least $1000 on your computer to upgrade it monthly. In five or six years you might make some money back. But don't get your hopes up. By following these simple instructions you can and will be a great player some day. But don't get you hopes up.

My Vendetta, on the Makers of V for Vendetta

Well folks looks like we are gonna be waiting a few more months for V for Vendetta. It turns out that a spokesperson for for Warner Brothers said that they still wanted to make some final edits, and touch-ups for the final cut of the movie. Though the movie does deal with a form of terrorism in a fascist ruled London, the spokes person said that the delay has nothing to do with the "current political climate". The movie has come under some discussion, as the main character, and protagonist is the one committing the acts of terror. In my opinion, while the bombings in the story do kill people they are all fascists and evil(as they are portrayed in a similar style to Hitler and the Nazi's). This movie will be great, and it will make money, but why the delay.
What is V for Vendetta...
It started as a graphic novel created by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. It was released sometime in the 80's and set in 1997. Apparently WW3 has happened, and nukes where launched everywhere. London is still around, but now it has been taken over by a group of fascists called Noresfire. Over time they have set up cameras and the government has all become a big brother type thing. They do plenty of tests on groups of minorities in concentration camps. Among them, as we find out is a man who we only know as Codename V. In the book you never see his face, and he is very mysterious(talks in rhymes, has no past). He (in a way I will not describe due to spoilers) realizes that he needs to rise up against the government. He escapes, goes to London and starts on his crusade against the government. He later recruits a girl named Eve Hammond, she has no where to go in her life and he ends up rescuing her from some the fascists in a dark London alley. She joins him and they end up working together. The book was incredible, I have read it many times, and from what I saw in the Preview I know I will not be disappointed from the movie. But it looks like we will all have to wait for "Q1 2006". Until then there is all ways the preview, and that will have to do.
The movie is being produce by Joal Silver, and its under Silver Pictures. The Wackaoski brothers are directing and leading the creative aspect of it. It stars Hugo Waeving as V(aslo in the Matrix as Agent Smith) and Nataile Portman as Eve(also from Star Wars). For more information on the movie check the main site.

The Charging of The... Henrico Residents?

As many of you know, Henrico county had a great Apple iBook deal on the 16th of August. For $50, you could buy a used G3 White iBook. 10 gigabite hard drive, 500mhz processer, 320 megabites of ram, and it runs Mac OS 10.2. Wow, totally worth it, espacily since these laptops go for $300 bucks on ebay. I first saw this on digg.com in the middle of July. I was super excited, I had a plan, I had my route set up through Google Maps, my dad even took a day off of work just so we could leave at midnigt and get there around 4:00 in the morning. Every day the anticipation was building, and then through Thunder Bird came the link saying that the date has changed, and now it will only be open to residents of Henrico County. I was upset, and now had to resort to paying in full for my next computer. I ended up just forgetting about it. Now that the day has passed I am glad I didnt go at all.

It turns out that people started showing up at around 1:30 in the morning. From then until 7:00AM a total of 12,000 residents of Henrico County showed up and where waiting in a half mile long line to get to the gates. There where only 1000 laptops available. As soon as the gates opende, a stampede of people ran past the security, into the building, and ran for their laptops. Imagine if they had left it open to even those outside of Henrico.

“This is total, total chaos,” said Latoya Jones, 19, who lost one of her flip-flops in the ordeal and later limped around on the sizzling blacktop with one foot bare.

One women even wet herself so she could keep her place in line. What is it about these deals that drive people insane. People were gettiing trampled, and hurt, and many at the front of the line didnt get a laptop at all. The security did not do the job correctly and the county should have known that all of these people would come. In my opinion, there should have been a small advertisment in the Henrico County Paper, about 5 days ago. No crowd, no worrys, no problems.

This is the second time I will be writing this. I definitely cant wait for the Firefox 1.5 update in September, I cant take the goddamn crashing. Anyway.
Dont worry, I have heard plenty of rumors that Google will buy Meetro, and plenty more rumors that it wont. But the applications of Google and Meetro could be incredible. What is Meetro. Meetro is a location aware instant messaging service. Its LOCATION AWARE, that means it tells your friends and contacts where you are, and when you are there. We know Google is taking the steps toward location aware services, a few months ago they bought Dodgeball. Dodgeball has a cell phone service that allows you to add your friends and contacts to your phone, and then rings when someone is near you. This is very very cool, but also kind of creepy. You can also add people you don't know to your list, like celebrities. Then you would know where they are all the time. Or even worse. Your out with the guys, and your girlfriend/wife/significant other knows where you and and she wishes you where home with her. Anyway, I wouldn't know what that's like. Back on topic, Google's adsense program could definitely have a future with location aware. Imagine that Joes Pizza pays google for ad space. Now Steve is over at Starbucks chatting with his friends on Googl's location aware messenger. As he is talking, on the side of his screen could appear a sponsored links box, saying something like. "Did you know that Joes Pizza is right across the street, why don't you have a bite or take some home". That's the future of advertising, and that will be brought to you by Google. Not intrusive at all, and definitely accurate to the consumer's needs, and in this case their location. For further Ideas on Google, scroll down and look for my Predictions on Google Bucks.

Formula 51 my REVIEW

Okay so lets set it up. Sam Jackson in a kilt, in Liverpool, trying to sell drugs, having problems, but funny as hell. It turns out that Sam Jackson has the formula for the ultimate drug, in his head. It cant be detected and all of the ingredients can be legally purchased. He works for a guy named Lizard (played by Meat Loaf, AKA Bob from Fight Club), and they are about to sell the formula of this "drug". Sam Jackson turns on him and decides to fly to England and try to sell it there. Lizard gets a hit man(woman) to return Sam Jackson to him so he can get the formula and then kill him. In England, Sam Jackson's character meets up with Felix (played by Robert Carlyle) to set up the next deal in England. Then the hit woman shots up everyone at the deal except for the two of them. Later Felix finds out that the hit woman was actually his old girl friend(played by Emily Mortimer). Now they are forced to go and find a new person to sell to. In between that, they have to run from the cops, get past some random skinheads, and get to a football(sorry, soccer) game at the end. The acting is just fine, it doesn't get in the way but its not something that's extra special. That doesn't matter though, all of the jokes work perfectly and it makes for a great comedy. There is plenty of action, and most of it does move the story along and it isn't mindless or boring. The scenes with the skinheads are by far the best, as the "leader" never has a clue as to what's going on, and allays gets punched in the face or humiliated. Definitely worth checking out or at least renting it. You'll love it its the best movie you have never seen. I give it an 8.5 out of 10. A new Idea.
I have been listening to a podcast called The Cubicle Escape Pod, the show is great. Basically its these two guys who are starting a new business, and it chronicles what it takes to start out, and they give their listeners plenty of tips on what to do and what not to do when it comes to small business. Recently they changed the direction they are taking their company. They announced something they call the modcast. This is a brilliant idea.
What is a modcast? A modcast in this instance is just like a podcast. The big idea here is that you can edit what you want and don't want to listen to within the show. For example, imagine there is a tech show that you like, however every show has a tip of the day. Perhaps you think these tips are of no use to you, with a modcast you can take that part and only that part out of the show. Perhaps this same show also has a news ticker type segment. If you don't want that edit that out also. Basically you can customize the show based what you want to hear. This could be done on the main site for the podcast, and then you could receive it in a separate rss feed. It could also give the show producers a better insight on what segments of their shows are more popular, and they can really tailor their own show to the audience.
My Idea. Well I think in shows like this and especially in podcasts this will work and it will work well. But I also think that the whole modcast concept can be broadened. One way is with comic books. Plenty of people buy tens and tens of single issue comics from a few companies every month. But the most money goes into the "biggies" Marvel and DC. A customer could go to the Marvel or DC website set up their own subscription account, then they could add only the books that they want from that company. For instance a checklist type page could come up, you check each book you want and at the end of the month, all of your favorite issues for that month get sent to u as a single trade paperback. The price would be a monthly cost, and the more books you want the more it would cost, but it would be easier for companies to keep track of who is buying what, and cheaper for the customer in the long run.
Those are just 2 examples. With the coming of IPtv a viewer could setup the shows they watch and the content within the show as well. This is still only scratching the surface of this idea so if u have anything to add post a comment or e-mail me at hosvos@gmail.com.

Comic Book Podcasts

Okay so I like comicbooks, A LOT. Its probobly not cool but oh well I lik'em, and there are a hell of a lot of great stories out there. And I prefer a nice visual reading experience. So any way, the way I got back into comics is by listening to podcasts. All of these guys make everything they talk about really cool and each show has its own spin on it.

#1. Comic Geek Speak: a bunch of guys get together, and just talk comics. They all know there stuff, and they answer all the questions submitted to them. Every month there is a book of the month show and there are a few shows per week. Out of the four this one is the funniest, and they all play off of each other well. They talk about comic writers, artists, and do full reviews on the new comicbook movies.

#2. I Read Comics: great opinions on comics, and the best part is that its a chick this time. She reads comics, reviews them, talks about upcoming books everything you would expect all from a girl. And if your a guy she's got some tips on how to be a "cool geek" like me.(sorta)(kinda)

#3. Comicology Podcast: basically its the knowledge of comics. But in this case the main subject matter is INDIE comics. This is great because there is no way you can get reviews on Indie books other than from a podcast. I have heard some of these reviews, and then loved the comic more than a lot of main stream comics I like. Great stuff

#4. Meanwhile, The Comics Podcast: In this one two guys(one writing his own web comic) talk back and forth about comics, web comics, and recent super hero movies. Best part is that they allays disagree. And its all ways good two have 2 opinions.

Podcasts not your thing? Okay well your missing out. But you can easily find all of these shows on Itunes 4.9 that has podcast support. Or you can click on the ODEO.com link in the sidebar, and search for the podcasts then listen right away. Just try it out, you might like it. If your already comic fan, you'll LOVE these.

A new idea.
I was thinking about this when I first saw batman begins. It was during the previews and I saw the preview for stealth. And just from that I could tell that it would be bad. I thought could all of the major movie production companies partner up and create a cheap movie solely for advertising. If five studios get together they could each pitch in 5 mill to make a decent 25 million dollar movie. But each of these producers gets a commercial in front of the movie for one of their up coming movies, and within the movies they could put ads everywhere. Any product that is seen on screen could be sponsored by some company that is affiliated with those products. Now what kind of movie could you make for 25 million. Well a lot of TV shows are made for 5 mill an episode. So you could get a TV show with an already large fanbase(like firefly), recreate it for the big screen, and it could all be done very cheaply using the same cast and crew.

The most money will have to be for promoting the hell outta the movie. There should be commercials running all the time from each of the contributing studios, and plenty of partnering with outside companies. The hardest part is getting people past the trailer. You make the trailer look 100 times better than the flick itself. Once people go to see it, it doesn't matter if the like it or not, the critics can say whatever they want, as long as there is plenty of advertising people will see this movie. And very few people have to see it and it will pay for itself. On top of that the ads within the movie should more than double the cost of production. AS LONG AS THE MONEY IS THERE FOR ADVERTISING everything else will fall into place.

So its basically a 2 hour commercial made for very cheap and hopfully seen by a lot of people. I know this is kind of spacey but anyone have any opinions. This could work, if it is carefully planned out.
In this case there is no failure, only differed success.

Search Engine Funnies

This is some of the funniest web strips I have ever read. Its probobly because I understand them, and Im not proud to say that I know alot about search engines, or at least the mentalities of the companies. But there are rele some funny ones on here and they up date a few times a week.

Now this is really cool, geobloggers.com is basicly a google maps site. However when you zoom in close to a location you can see pictures from the ground of what you could see there. I posted an image I took of the space shuttle in the Air and Space Museum in Dulles. There are plenty of pics all around DC, and the closer you zoom in the more you see around the country. Ill post a tutorial later, but all you need is a flickr account, greasemonkey, and the willingness to learn. So its rele cool alot like how amazons A9.com map search shows you waht you see on the streets. So startposting your ownstuff, I fore-see a day when there will be a picture on every streetcorner. Again another example of Irriversible Progress.

A new idea. I was creating a website for my mom,(more on that later) when I thought of something rather revolutionary in the world of digital cameras. I use flickr a lot, and I use my digital camera a little too much, so why not combine the two? Why not have a digital camera with built in wifi, and in a few years wimax. Then install some flickr software on there and when your at a hot spot upload your pics right off of your camera. The applications of this would be crazy. No more need for memory cards if you are connected all the time. You could access an unlimited amount of photos right from the web. The cost of using I digital camera would decrees as you wouldn't need a memory card or only need a small one. In a few years all major cities will have wifi hotspots on every street corner, if not wimax. And with flickr you could even share your pics and upload one of your contacts pics directly to your camera. This could be very very simple to implement. There are already cameras with GPS that tag every photo you take with the coordenants. With flicker you take a pic, edit the when, where, with who, and title and immediately share it with the world. Same goes for mobloging, you don't have to bare that crappy cell phone camera resolution any more. So Cannon, Sony, etc., could easily partner with Yahoo and flickr to do this could be out next Christmas if they tried it now. Oh and excuse the crappy photoshop.

Firefly, and the upcoming Serenity

Well earlier tonight I finished watching the entire run of Joss Whedons Firefly. The 2 hour pilot and the 13 other episodes. I was totally moved by it and im very very excited for the upcoming movie Serenity. For those that dont know about Firefly it is.. to put simply, a western set 500 years in the future. As it is described by its creators its a perfect blending of the past and the future to settle somewhere in the middle, and it feels very current and real. However if anything, Firefly is NOT to be put simply, it was origannly planned out as a space "drama". Each charecter is surprisingly real, and they all play off of each other so well. The plot is amazing and goes very deep(that is for the first 15 episodes). They could have taken it in so many directions, that'll be something to look for in the movie on September 30th. The writing is superb(who am I to judge I just like it) and in every episode there was at least one or two Badass "Indy" moments. That is when Indian Jones shoots the guy twirling his sowrds. You definatly gotta buy the DVD, or if you allready have it, buy one for someone who doesnt. According to IMDB the movie was produced for around 50 mill, and it should be able get double and hopfully triple that at the boxoffice. I have a feeling that it will(to those who dont know it) come outta nowhere and surprise millions of people. It cant fail the fanbase is just too big, and these hardcore fans will do anything to promote this movie.
There no FAILURE only DEFERRED SUCESS. (damn this is turning into a play on words kina blog)

I have plenty of friends that like too share their photos online with other friends. There are plenty of services out there, but people cant see that the best one is flickr. UI is great, the speed of uploads, and searches is great but young people like my self are seem not to know or care and are reluctant to switch. You may have noticed on my sidebar I have added my flickr badge. Those are images from my flickr account, feel free to click on it and post comments. Bottom line in online photo sharing, Flickr = the best, everything else = dont use it.

Also FYI I will keep adding things to the side bar and describe them later on.

Xmail hard drive, unleash the power of Gmail

I have started an xmail hard drive for this blog. Xmail is a service that allows you to use the webspace given from Gmail (a whopping 2.5 gigs) and using it to host files online so everyone can have access to them from anywhere with an internet connection. You will need the address and password to get into it.

So we all know (well those of us that are rather tech savvy) that Google owns bucks.google.com. They have said that they are not competing with paypal, but I'm pretty sure this will be a way to electronically transfer money. Not from user to user. But from user to seller(Amazon, New Egg, FROOGLE). You enter all of your money information, and this will enable 1 click purchases online. Well 2 click after conformation.

Now why is Google putting out this service, and putting it out for free? THEY WANT TO KNOW WHAT WE BUY. surely Google will index all of our purchases and then they can make plenty of money on 2 fronts.

First since they know what we like based not only on what we buy but also on our searches, and e-mails, they will be able to advertise on our pages for products that we want based on how we do things online(we all remember web acculturateor) No matter what page your on google ads will be specific to YOU and not just what is on that particular page, as long as your logged into your google account.
Second online shopping sites will pay google for information on us. NO NOTHING SPECIFIC. google will know for example, the average age group that purchases a product. This can be sold to companies so they know who to market to. Another example, incomes of a person buying an item. This way companies can tell what to price a certain item and who they are pricing it for.

Now why would you use google bucks? They will probably give you a list of features like a better product search through froogle, a way to easily search for the best prices, and a suggestion for products you might like.

While I was writing this I think I figured out googles path and where they are going in the future.

GOOGLE WILL ADVANCE ITS COMPANY IN ANY WAY THAT GIVES THEM THE ABILITY TO TRACK AND LEARN MORE ABOUT THEIR USERS AND TO MAKE THE INTERNET BETTER AND EASIER FOR THEM.
Like a fool I will probobly follow google to any length. They have accomplished everything they have attempted(ok ill forgive them for GWA) and they are only moving forward. You could say they are IRREVERSIBLY PROGRESSING.

So I have basicly figured out how everything works "htmlwise" on blogger. My site will only continue to look pretier and pretier. And I just posted all of my digg news. I will tray to post more on digg.com for the sake of my ranking on dig, and to make sure it plays out nicly on this site. I culd proboly even add a diffrent RSS feed and then you could enjoy the news from somone elses blog on my blog.... hmmm thats intresting.

So if you all with just stick around this shindigg is only going to get better and better. For my next plan of ATTACK... does anyone know if there is a script I can add to the html to show what music I have been playing in itunes... ill look that up but i appreciate all help.
Also I have only show this blog to 2 people, both of them named Camron. :)
By the way this is IMO the better alternative to myspace.com, MS to me seems kina cheesy and maby this makes me seem dorkier but oh well.

Okay so I have no readers, but im feeling good about this,
Im gonna pimp the hell outta this blog and ill be happy when I get 10 subscribers. I will have some of my news from digg.com, and ill talk about some of my current projects, they are all fun. If i was gonna describe thism blog for the Post, id say it was a chronical of a new highschool student, who likes to play around with new technologies.... ummm okay, be prepared for plenty of spelling errors, and very very abriviated words.
